Slender Red Cayenne Chillies with a Mild Heat

Grow your own Little Veggie Patch Co Chilli 'Cayenne' Heirloom Seeds. This popular heirloom variety grows to approximately 60cm tall and produces an abundance of slender, long chillies that mature to a deep red.

The chillies have a moderate heat and can be used fresh, cured, dried or made into a paste, giving you plenty of options for the kitchen.

How to Grow

Soil

Prepare rich, free-draining soil by incorporating compost and well-rotted animal manure approximately two weeks before planting. Chillies can also benefit from an application of lime.

Position

Choose a sunny, hot position with free-draining soil. Avoid planting where hungry crops such as brassicas were previously grown.

How to Plant 

Propagate the seeds in individual cells. During warm conditions, leave the seedlings outdoors during the day and bring them indoors at night.

Transplant once daytime temperatures are regularly above 20°C. Cayenne chilli plants are intolerant of frost.
