Cold-Hardy Kale with Frilled Leaves

Grow Kale 'Dwarf Blue', a Russian variety producing frilled leaves and strong cold tolerance. It is highly productive, with each plant capable of producing for well over a year, although plants may be affected by white cabbage moths and their caterpillars.

How to Grow

Soil

Prepare nutrient-rich soil with fresh manure and compost a fortnight before planting. Incorporate good levels of organic matter to help improve the soil's water-holding ability.

Position

Plant in full sun. In warm weather, the plants will benefit from some shade.

How to Plant 

Soak the seeds in water overnight before planting. Sow directly into the veggie patch at around 1cm deep. Thin out the seedlings once they have germinated, which should take approximately 7–10 days.
