Mildly Spicy Salad Rocket for the Veggie Patch

Grow fresh Little Veggie Patch Co Rocket 'Salad' Heirloom Seeds at home. Easy to grow through much of the year, salad rocket is one of the first leafy greens to establish in the veggie patch.

It has a mildly spicy flavour that becomes more pungent as the plant develops flower heads. With regular growth and flowering, it can remain productive for several months.

As a member of the brassica family, salad rocket can attract white cabbage moth, although this variety is less favoured than some others.

How to Grow

Soil

Prepare the soil with compost and well-rotted manure. Fresh manure can burn young rocket seedlings, so make sure it has mellowed or allow the soil to settle for 1–2 weeks before planting.

When growing rocket in pots, use free-draining soil mixed with compost or a good-quality potting mix.

Position

Choose a position in full sun for best results. Salad rocket will also tolerate some shade.

How to Plant 

Use a free draining soil well integrated with compost or good quality potting mix when growing in pots. Sow seeds directly into the patch during the warmer periods of autumn and spring, otherwise propagate in a seed tray and transplant once condition become suitable. Cut flower heads to help promote new growth. A reliable self seeder.
