They might look similar at first glance, but they tell slightly different stories - and both matter to us for different reasons.
What Does "Australian Made" Mean?
Australian Made tells you that a product has been made or substantially transformed in Australia. It could come from a maker in Melbourne, a small business in regional Victoria, or a studio on the other side of the country.
There's also an official Australian Made logo, administered by the Australian Made Campaign Limited, which certified brands can display to help shoppers identify products that meet Australia's country-of-origin criteria. Not every Australian-made product we stock carries this exact logo, but each one genuinely starts its story here.
So when you see our Australian Made tag, you know the product's story starts somewhere in Australia - even if it isn't right here in Melbourne.

What Does "Melbourne Made" Mean to Us?

These are products created by makers working in and around Melbourne - from small studios and local workshops to home-based businesses and independent makers. Some are the kinds of businesses you might spot at a local market on a Saturday morning.
For us, there's something special about being able to support the creative people and small businesses in our own city. Melbourne is full of talented makers, and we love giving their work a place on our shelves.

Why We Stock Both
We don't see this as an either/or. Choosing to stock both Melbourne Made and wider Australian Made products lets us:
● Champion our local makers first - many of the products we love stocking start right here in Melbourne
● Still support Australian small businesses more broadly - regional and interstate makers deserve the same spotlight, especially when they're doing things thoughtfully and sustainably
● Give you more genuine choice - sometimes the perfect gift for someone's values or tastes simply comes from outside Melbourne, and we'd rather stock something excellent from Ballarat or Byron Bay than nothing at all
