Joy!

Joy! is a reimagining of the Chronicle backlist classic All Smiles (1995) _ collecting the best of the historical black-and-white photos from that book plus a new selection of colour photography.

In our current cultural and political moment of anxiety, division, and even hate, we could all use a reminder of the hopeful and positive possibilities of human existence. This petite and eminently giftable hardcover showcases the spectrum of a universal human emotion. Gathered by photo curator Bruce Velick and with an introduction by Robert Emmons, PhD, a happiness expert and psychology professor at the University of California, Davis, the images in the book include the work of acclaimed photographers Leonard Freed, Elliott Erwitt, Linda Connor, Inge Morath, and many more.
