How to Grow

Soil 

Prepare a free-draining, moderately fertile soil and add compost as part of your soil preparation. Hales Jumbo can tolerate a range of soil types.

Position 

Choose a full-sun position with plenty of room for the vine to spread. You can plant it at the edge of your growing space and allow it to creep away, or use a solid trellis structure to grow the vine vertically.

How to Plant

Sow the seeds directly into the patch at a depth of 2–3cm, preferably into small mounds of compost to provide adequate nutrition and drainage. Keep the seeds well watered until germination.

Rockmelon is not frost tolerant, so it is best to plant when conditions are regularly above 18°C. If conditions are cool, propagate the seeds in trays, keep them indoors at night and transplant them once conditions are suitable.
