Sporadical City Mushrooms
Sporadical City Mushrooms are passionate about cultivating delicious, seasonal, chemical-free fungi. They work with local chefs around Naarm (Melbourne) to provide the freshest mushrooms, sold directly to the public at farmers markets every weekend. Excess produce is creatively transformed into plant-based mushroom products, reducing food waste and promoting sustainable practices.
They offer delectable medleys of seasonal oyster mushrooms, richly flavoured Shiitake, and sweet Lion’s Mane mushrooms. Their vegan OM XO Sauce and OMG Confit Mushrooms are firm favourites at markets, and part of a growing range of gourmet SCM delicacies.
By cultivating a variety of edible fungi year-round, they provide a highly nutritious food source. They share knowledge through workshops and collaborations, connecting communities with agriculture, local ecology, and sustainable practices.
Founded by Julia Laidlaw in 2018, Sporadical City Mushrooms has grown from a small inner-city rental to a purpose-built modular farm on the banks of Darebin Creek in Alphington. Their ‘towards zero waste’ philosophy drives innovation, circular economy collaborations, and a passion for fungi, people, and the planet.
